Overview

Ama Dablam is one of the most popular Himalayan peaks for permitted expeditions. The long ridges on each side of the peak makes it the most attractive peak in Khumbu region which dominates the eastern sky for anyone visiting this region. The first ascent to the peak was made by Mike Gill (NZ), Barry Bishop (USA), Mike Ward (UK) and Wally Romanes (NZ) via the Southwest Ridge on 13 March 1961. They were members of the 1960-61 Silver Hut expedition led by Sir Edmund Hillary. As part of the expedition, they all were well-acclimated to altitude, having wintered over at 5800 meters near the base of the peak.

Nowadays this peak is climbed every Spring and Autumn by a large number of climbers.
