Day-by-Day Itinerary

A detailed breakdown of your adventure

Day 1: Drive Pokhara to Nayapul / Birethanti | Trek to Tikhedhunga / Ulleri
We start the morning with a private, scenic drive from Pokhara, winding along the ridge lines before dropping into the Modi Khola river valley at Nayapul. After checking our permits at the bustling checkpoint of Birethanti, our foot journey begins. We trace the banks of the Bhurungdi Khola, passing beautiful terraced rice paddies and small waterfalls before reaching Tikhedhunga. From here, we begin tackling the famous stone staircase—a steady, rewarding climb up toward the village of Ulleri.
Day 2: Trek Ulleri to Ghorepani
We leave Ulleri on a much gentler uphill gradient today. The trail plunges into deeply enchanting, ancient oak and rhododendron forests. If you are trekking in the spring, the entire canopy bursts into spectacular shades of crimson, pink, and white. We listen to the sounds of hidden streams and birds before emerging at the mountain pass settlement of Ghorepani. Instantly, the massive, ice-capped wall of the Dhaulagiri massif fills the horizon.
Day 3: Sunrise at Poon Hill | Trek to Tadapani
An unforgettable alpine morning. We wake up before dawn and make a 45-minute climb by headlamp to the summit of Poon Hill (3,210m). As the first light breaks, watch the sunrise turn the peaks of Dhaulagiri I, Annapurna South, Nilgiri, and the sacred Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) a brilliant, glowing gold. After drinking in the views, we descend to Ghorepani for a warm breakfast, then trek across high ridges and deep, forested valleys to reach Tadapani.
Day 4: Trek Tadapani to Ghandruk
We enjoy a relaxed morning looking out at the mountains before setting off on a short, pleasant descent through thick, moss-covered forests. Keep an eye out for langur monkeys swinging through the trees. By midday, we arrive in Ghandruk, one of the largest and most beautifully preserved Gurung villages in the region. Spend the afternoon exploring its narrow flagstone alleys, visiting the local cultural museum, and enjoying the traditional stone architecture looking straight out at Annapurna South.
Day 5: Trek Ghandruk to Kimche | Drive back to Pokhara
On our final day on the trail, we make a gentle, scenic walk down past terraced farmlands to the roadside village of Kimche. Here, we say goodbye to our porter team and board a private four-wheel-drive vehicle or bus. The road twists along the valley walls, tracking the Modi Khola river all the way back to the highway. We arrive in Pokhara by early afternoon, leaving you plenty of time for a hot shower, a lakeside massage, or a relaxed evening by Phewa Lake.
Day 6: Onward Journey from Pokhara
Enjoy a slow breakfast overlooking the water. Your Poon Hill trekking adventure officially concludes today. You can catch a morning flight or tourist coach back across the hills to Kathmandu, or continue your travels onward from Pokhara.
